Swasraya is a training and rehabilitation centre for paraplegic people, providing support and assistance in their daily activities to make them independent and to bring them to the forefront of the society.
It is located in Vettickal, Ernakulam district and has been established with the sole intention to help the spinal cord injured people by providing a secure and respectable environment for their recovery and rehabilitation after injury.
Swasraya aims to the holistic rehabilitation and comprehensive care for people with paralysis, who, instead of feeling neglected and burdensome to the society, could be transformed into productive contributors to community.
The institution was inaugurated on 15th May 2005. A ten-member managing committee headed by Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius as the Chairman, Fr. Marydas Stephen as the Vice Chairman, and Mr. Reji Abraham (Founder trustee) as the manager looks after the administration of Swasraya.

Our Services
Swasraya has enlisted the services of a number of medical experts in different specialties to treat and advise the trainees.
Physiotherapy Unit
Swasraya provides regular physiotherapy facility for it's inmates and Out Patient facility also available with prior booking. Physiotherapy helps to eliminate pain and to restore your mobility by Stretching and strengthening exercises.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is a treatment for problems with movement, balance and coordination. It helps the people to improve their motor skills involved in daily living activities.
Vocational Training
Swasraya offers vocational training, that enables person with disabilities to overcome barriers in accessing or returning to employment or other useful occupation.
Counselling
At swasraya, we provide psychological counselling to overcome post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. Counselling sessions will be handled by professionally trained and expert psychologists.
Cafeteria
"Meal times are for bonding and communication"- A Dining table is a place of community and eating together gives us the opportunity to talk, laugh and share. We pride ourselves in our canteen that provides tasty, healthy and nutritious food to our inmates in hygienic condition.
Recreation
Swasraya provide in-house recreational facilities. Participating in recreational activities helps to manage stress. Taking time to nurture oneself provides a sense of balance and self-esteem, which can directly reduce anxiety and depression.

Swasraya Friends Circle
Swasraya Friends Circle is a body of people who contribute Rs.50,000/- or more to Swasraya. Members of the group receive a certificate for their contribution and with the title of “Lifelong friends of Swasraya”. The membership fee can be paid in lump sum or in installments. Your contribution does not have to be limited to the membership fees. We accept contributions in Indian. All contributions are eligible for exemption from Income Tax. All contributors are requested to please furnish their full name and contact details.
